EXPERTISE IN MOTION

What Our Car TPMS Service Includes

Each TPMS diagnostic and repair starts with a full system inspection using a TPMS diagnostic tool to read sensor IDs, check RF signal transmission, and identify any TPMS fault codes. We service both direct TPMS systems, which use a physical valve stem sensor or clamp-in TPMS sensor at each wheel, and indirect TPMS systems that rely on wheel-speed data. Once the fault is identified, we handle everything from sensor battery replacement to full replacement TPMS sensor installation, including OEM and programmable universal TPMS sensor options.

Full TPMS system inspection: we check every sensor, the TPMS control module, and the TPMS receiver for communication faults.

TPMS sensor programming and registration: new sensors are activated, assigned the correct sensor ID, and registered to your vehicle's TPMS ECU.

TPMS relearn service: we complete the correct relearn procedure so your dashboard warning indicator resets and stays off.

TPMS fault code scanning: we retrieve and clear any stored codes using a professional TPMS scan tool.

Snap-in and clamp-in TPMS sensor replacement: we stock both hardware types to match your vehicle's original valve stem sensor design.

TPMS calibration service: pressure threshold settings are verified against manufacturer specifications after every repair.

TPMS Service Areas Across Ontario

Tire Choice Auto Centre serves drivers from North York, Toronto, Scarborough, and Etobicoke, as well as customers travelling in from Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill. We also regularly assist drivers from Hamilton, Oshawa, and Ottawa who need reliable TPMS diagnostics while visiting the GTA. Ontario winters are hard on tire pressure monitoring systems, cold temperatures cause tire pressure to drop roughly 1 PSI for every 5°C decrease, which means a TPMS sensor that worked fine in October may trigger false alerts or fail to communicate by January. Keeping your TPMS service current is especially important on Ontario roads, where accurate tire pressure data directly affects safety on wet, icy, and salt-treated surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions About Car TPMS Service in Ontario

A basic TPMS diagnostic and fault code scan at Tire Choice Auto Centre typically runs $39 to $69. If a replacement TPMS sensor is needed, costs range from $60 to $150 per sensor depending on whether you choose a programmable universal TPMS sensor or an OEM-spec part. A TPMS relearn procedure is usually an additional $45 to $85. Contact us for a free written quote specific to your vehicle.

Most TPMS sensor replacements, including the sensor programming, registration, and relearn procedure, are completed within 45 minutes to 1 hour per vehicle at our North York shop. If multiple sensors need replacing, allow up to 90 minutes. We offer same-day appointments for most TPMS repairs.

When new tires are installed, the TPMS sensors must be relearned to the vehicle’s TPMS ECU, which resets the sensor ID assignments. If the relearn procedure was skipped or incomplete, your dashboard warning indicator will stay on even though tire pressure is correct. Bring your vehicle to Tire Choice Auto Centre and we’ll complete a proper TPMS relearn service to clear the light.

A direct TPMS system uses a physical sensor, either a snap-in TPMS sensor or a clamp-in TPMS sensor mounted at each wheel, to measure actual tire pressure and transmit data via RF signal transmission to the TPMS control module. An indirect TPMS system estimates pressure by comparing wheel rotation speeds using ABS sensors rather than dedicated tire pressure sensors. Direct systems are more accurate and more common on newer vehicles; indirect systems require a TPMS reset after tire inflation changes.

You can drive short distances, but it’s not recommended. Ontario Highway Traffic Act regulations require vehicles to be mechanically fit, and significantly underinflated tires affect braking distance, handling, and fuel economy, especially on GTA highways and winter roads. A lit TPMS warning light means at least one tire may be 25% below its recommended pressure. Book a TPMS diagnostic as soon as possible to confirm whether it’s a real pressure issue or a sensor communication fault.

Not always, but it’s worth considering if your sensors are older. TPMS sensor batteries are non-replaceable in most direct TPMS systems and typically last 7 to 10 years. If one sensor has failed due to battery drain, the others are likely similar in age and may fail soon. Our technicians use TPMS signal testing to check the remaining sensors’ battery status during any TPMS service visit, so you can make an informed decision rather than replacing them all unnecessarily.
